The barista at the cafe on 5th in Portland asked where I found my coffee shop, and it made me rethink my Google listings
I was sitting in a small cafe on 5th Ave in Portland doing some work, and the barista noticed my laptop sticker for a local roaster. She asked how I found that place, and I said it was just the first result when I searched 'coffee near me.' She laughed and said her shop shows up on page 3 for that same search. We talked for a bit and I looked at her Google Business profile on my phone right there. Their hours were wrong, the last photo was from 2 years ago, and they had zero replies to reviews. I fixed the basics on the spot, and she texted me 4 days later saying they got 11 calls from Maps that week. Has anyone else had a client where just updating the business listing basics moved the needle that fast?

My buddy runs a bike repair shop and had the same thing happen, his hours were wrong for like 8 months and he never touched the photos. He spent 20 minutes fixing it all one night and started getting calls the next week from people who said they found him on Maps. It's wild how much the basics matter when nobody ever bothers to check them.
