Last week a guy in a coworking space in Chiang Mai told me I was overpaying for my VPN by $10 a month

He showed me his setup with some encrypted DNS thing and a free tier service. I've been paying $15 a month for three years. Has anyone else found a solid free or cheaper setup that actually works for remote work?

I've noticed this pattern everywhere lately. People will pay a premium just to not have to learn one more thing, and honestly I kind of get it. I have a drawer full of cheap kitchen gadgets I bought to save money but never use because they're more work than just paying for takeout.

Wait, you've been paying $15 a month this whole time? I had a friend who swore by this one VPN that was like $3 a month, but every time I tried to connect it would just spin and spin... finally gave up after a week. Ended up going back to my old setup which is actually just the browser extension from a privacy company, costs me nothing but I have to remember to turn it on manually every time I open my laptop. Honestly, I'd rather pay the $15 than deal with the headache of figuring out all those technical settings.
