My laptop charger fried itself in a Lisbon cafe last week

The power adapter literally started smoking, and I had to scramble to find a replacement store before my battery died mid-work session. Has anyone else had gear just give up on them in a foreign country, and what's your backup plan?

Ugh, that's the worst feeling. My phone charger melted in Barcelona once. Now I always pack a universal adapter and a cheap backup cable. It's not worth the panic.

Yeah, that scramble for a store is pure panic. I fried a charger in Prague and now I just keep a spare power brick in my bag at all times. It's a cheap one, but it's saved me a few times when the main one acts up.
