The day I realized I was transferring my wheelchair wrong

For two years I kept bumping my knees getting into my car because I always folded the footrests first. Last month a physical therapist at the clinic watched me do it and said 'you know those flip up, right?' Changed my whole routine in 5 seconds. Anyone else have a moment where a simple trick made you feel silly for missing it?

Wait, footrests flip up? I've been doing the same thing for months and now I feel like a total goof for not figuring that out sooner.

Oh man, don't feel bad Kevin, I did the exact same thing for like three months before a friend casually flipped theirs up and my brain just short circuited. I literally said out loud "wait, THAT'S a thing?" and felt like I'd been living under a rock. It's one of those design tricks that's so obvious once you see it but nobody tells you about. Honestly, I think the footrest people should put a little sticker on there that says "lift me" or something. You're not a goof, you're just normal like the rest of us who didn't accidentally discover a hidden feature. Now you can join the cool kids club of people who sit with their legs up like a fancy person.
