Serious question, did anyone else learn chain wear the hard way after burning through 3 cassettes?
I used to just ride until the chain skipped, and then replace only the chain. After replacing my third cassette in 18 months on my commuter, a mechanic at my local shop in Sacramento showed me a $12 chain checker and explained that a worn chain stretches and eats the teeth. Now I check it every couple hundred miles. Has anyone else had a cassette die early because they skipped this step, or am I the only one who learned it this way?
