My trash can scarecrow lost his head in a storm on Tuesday and the squirrels have zero fear now
So I built this scarecrow out of an old gray trash can, a broom handle, and a plastic skeleton head I got from a neighbor's yard sale in Toledo for 2 bucks. The idea was to keep deer off my tomato plants but make it so weird that even the mail lady slows down to look at it. He stood on a stake near the fence for 11 days and honestly he was doing great, crows stayed away and my neighbors kept asking what the deal was. Then Tuesday night we got wind gusts around 40 mph and the skeleton head snapped right off the wooden dowel I used for a neck. I found the head in the compost pile the next morning staring up at me and now the body is just a headless trash can with arms. Worse part is the squirrels seem to know he is done, they were sitting on his shoulder like he is a bench. I am thinking of wiring the head back on with coat hangers and adding a second smaller head on top just to lean into it. Has anyone else had a storm mess up their garden weirdo and did you fix it or just let it get weirder?
