Hot glue on my fingers for 2 years, then I saw a 12 year old use a popsicle stick

I was over here pressing foam pieces together with my bare hands like a caveman, and this kid at a con in Austin just scooped the excess glue with a stick and used it as a little spatula to smooth the seam. Took me 3 builds to realize I was burning myself for no reason, so now I keep a stack of those cheap craft sticks on my desk. Anyone else have a basic tool that made you feel dumb when you finally saw it?

Popsicle sticks are solid, but the real upgrade is using a silicone clay shaper. It doesn't stick to the glue at all, so you can press and smooth without fighting it. The kid's trick works, but the silicone one saves you from scraping off half-dried glue every time. Craft sticks are just the first step, tbh.
