PVC pipe vs foam pipe insulation for a big sword, I picked wrong

Spent 2 days shaping PVC for a cosplay greatsword and the heat gun warped it into a banana, so I ripped it apart and wrapped foam insulation around a wooden dowel instead. Took 3 hours and looks way better, has anyone else ditched PVC after one bad heat gun session?
