Spent 10 years glueing foam wrong, a kid at Megacon set me straight
I was at Megacon last March watching this teenager assemble a Mandalorian chest piece. She used contact cement on both surfaces, let it dry for like 15 minutes, then pressed them together. I'd been just slapping the glue on one side and sticking it immediately for over a decade. All my seams were always peeling at the edges, thought that was just how foam worked. Has anyone else had a basic technique click way later than it should have?

Contact cement is the way to go and most people don't know you have to coat BOTH sides. The trick is waiting for it to get tacky, not wet. If you touch it and it strings up or sticks to your finger, it's ready. Pressing too early traps the solvent inside and that's why your edges lift later. I learned this same lesson from a cosplay vet at a local build night and it changed everything for me. Also rough up the foam surface with sandpaper first so the glue has something to grab onto. After you press, roll it with a seam roller or even a soda can to push out air bubbles. My seams stopped peeling completely once I started doing all of that.
