Honestly I used to be a zip tie guy for years, and last month I finally paid for it. I was moving my desk to paint the wall in my apartment in Denver, and when I cut the first tie bundle under the desk, one of my monitor cables was so tight it yanked the whole power strip off the back of the desk and it whacked the floor. Nothing broke, but it scared me bad and I sat there staring at 14 zip ties all pinched way too tight around every wire. I grabbed a $6 roll of velcro straps from the hardware store the next day and redid the whole thing in about 40 minutes. Here is the thing nobody says out loud: zip ties are cheap and they look clean in photos, but they crush cables and you can never swap a single cord without destroying the whole bundle. Velcro lets me pull one wire out and put it back while everything else stays put, and I have redone my setup twice since without a single snip. So my hot take is that zip ties are for people who never plan to touch their desk again, and that is not how real desks work. Has anyone else had a cable or port die on them because a tie was way too tight, or am I just the guy who learned this the hard way?
