My monitor arm hatred died after one guy at the reuse shop

I spent like two years convinced monitor arms were a scam for people with too much money. My setup was a stack of old textbooks holding up a 24 inch screen and honestly it worked fine. Then I was at the Habitat ReStore in Portland last month looking for drawer pulls and this older guy saw me eyeing a dusty VIVO arm they had marked at $12. He just said "that thing will give you back your whole desk" and walked off. I bought it on a whim and he was right, the base footprint I got back is ridiculous, I fit a whole keyboard tray underneath now. But what really stuck with me is how he said it so matter of fact, like it was obvious to everyone but me. Has anyone else had a cheap used arm totally change their posture or desk space, or am I late to the party on this whole thing?

Grabbed one at a garage sale for five bucks and my neck pain just disappeared!
