My neighbor swore by zip ties for cable management and he was dead wrong

Last month in Columbus, my neighbor Mike told me to ditch velcro straps and just zip tie everything under my desk. Said it would look cleaner and hold better. Two weeks later I had to swap out a monitor cable and spent 45 minutes with wire cutters trying to get to it. The bundle looked fine but it was a nightmare to work on. Has anyone else had a similar experience with permanent cable ties over reusable straps?

...and honestly I had the exact same thing happen but with those plastic cable sleeves you thread everything through, looked super clean but then I needed to trace one HDMI cable and gave up after ten minutes. That's the thing with permanent solutions, they always fail the moment you actually need to change something, and Mike probably never had to move his desk setup in the middle of a work week at 11pm. Went back to velcro and never looked back, though I did keep one zip tie on the power cord just to feel alive.
