Joystick tension ring size shocked me, way smaller than I thought

Tore down an old controller last Saturday to swap the sticks and figured the tension ring would be like a dime. It's actually smaller than a pencil eraser, got mine from a repair kit on Amazon for $8. Has anyone else botched the first install because they tried to handle it with big clumsy fingers?

Mine ended up on the carpet somewhere and I found it three days later with a flashlight. The thing is basically a tiny rubber donut, I used tweezers for the second attempt and even then it kept sliding off the stick. Almost glued it in by accident with the leftover thumbstick grease. Third try was the charm but my back was hurting from leaning over the desk that whole time. Those kits really should come with a magnifying glass or something.
