Question about swapping my Xbox sticks after a guy at the Charlotte retro shop called my solder joints cold
I was pretty proud of my first joystick swap on an old Xbox controller until the guy at a retro game shop in Charlotte looked at it and flat out said my solder joints were cold and would fail in a couple weeks. That stung but he was right, so now I always crank my iron up to 650 and tin both the pad and the wire before I even touch them together. My drift fix has held up for about 4 months of heavy use since then. Anyone got a better temp they swear by for these tiny pads, or am I already in the sweet spot?
Set mine to 600 with a fat tip and it's been solid for years, so you're probably fine. Just don't rush the joint, let it flow shiny before you pull back.
