Just realized my paint roller technique was all wrong
A neighbor watched me painting my living room last month and asked why I was rolling in a zigzag pattern. He told me to roll in a straight W shape and then fill it in without lifting the roller. I tried it on the back wall and the coverage was way more even with no streaks. Has anyone else gotten paint advice from a random neighbor that actually worked better than the YouTube tutorials?

The whole straight W thing changed how I paint too, it's wild how something so simple can make such a big difference. That zigzag pattern sounds like it would leave uneven spots, but the W method lets you keep a wet edge so you don't get those ugly lap marks. YouTube tutorials never mention the little tricks that actual people who paint all the time know about, you know? Maybe it's just me but I feel like random advice from neighbors ends up being way more practical than anything from a pro with fancy lighting and editing. They should start a neighborhood paint tips exchange or something.

Man, same thing happened to me last summer. Some old guy walking his dog stopped and told me I was basically fighting the paint instead of letting it do the work, and now my walls actually look like a pro did them.
