Just realized my tile spacers were the reason my bathroom floor came out wavy
I was laying 12x12 ceramic tile in my upstairs bathroom back in March and about halfway through I noticed the rows were drifting out of line by almost a quarter inch. I had been using these cheap 1/8 inch spacers I grabbed at a hardware store in Aurora for like $6, and turns out half of them were molded uneven, so the grout lines were all over the place. I pulled up the last 8 tiles I set, which was a pain because the thinset had already started to cure, and scraped everything clean with a putty knife. Ended up switching to the little T shaped spacers that clip into the joint instead, and did a dry layout first to check every single one. Cost me an extra evening and about $18 more in materials but the floor is dead straight now. Anyone else run into a batch of spacers that were just plain bad, or do you check them against a gauge before you start?
