Warning: $80 switch pedal caused a 40 minute mono nightmare

I grabbed a cheap A/B/Y switcher from an online auction and it silently killed my signal whenever the battery dipped below half, which I only caught mid-rehearsal in my basement. Anyone else get burned by budget switching gear that works 10 minutes then fades out on you?
