Shoutout to the retired machinist at the Riverside flea market who told me to stop chasing pretty welds
I was showing a guy my practice TIG beads on a scrap plate last Saturday in Riverside and he said 'those look like jewelry, can you carry a load with it?' That hit me. So I cut my coupons in half on the bandsaw and bent them in the vise to see what would happen, and 3 of my 6 beads cracked right at the toe. Turns out I was running way too cold and moving too fast this whole time. Anyone else learn more from the bend test than from a stack of dimes?
What was your travel speed looking like when you were running cold, like were you dragging the puddle fast to keep it from popping? The bend test on those coupons tells you way more than the bead cap ever will, cause a pretty stack can still have zero fusion at the root. Curious if you went back and bumped your amps up or just slowed your hand down first.
