The guy at the ReStore in Tucson handed me a $2 hinge and said one sentence that ruined my whole build night
I was picking up cabinet hardware around 9pm and he looked at my cart and said, "you know those screws strip if you don't pre-drill, right?" Now I'm 3 hours into redoing 6 holes I wallered out. What's your go-to fix for a stripped hinge screw hole at 11pm?
Man, the real problem is that the screw holes in most of these cabinets are particle board, and once you strip one it never holds right again. My trick is to cut a sliver of a wooden golf tee or a pinch of steel wool and pack it in the hole with wood glue, then drive the screw in while the glue is still wet. It sounds dumb but the glue grabs the wood fibers and the screw cuts its own threads again. Let it set overnight and that hinge will hold better than the day it was made.
