Warning: bought a $60 'speedball' squeegee and my $8 hardware store one printed better
Honestly I got talked into buying one of those fancy squeegees at the art store in Austin last month. The guy behind the counter swore the blade was sharper and I would use less ink, so I dropped $60 on it. First run on a 4 color poster and the edge dug into my mesh on the second pull and left a line right through the middle of the print. My old $8 rubber squeegee from the hardware store has been fine for two years of shirts and never done that once. I went back to it that same night and the next 6 prints came out clean. Save your money and put it toward emulsion or a better screen instead. Has anyone else had a pricey squeegee chew up their mesh like that or did I just get a bad one?
Sounds like you might've just got a bad one or maybe the blade angle was off from the start. I've used both cheap and pricey squeegees and honestly the gap isn't as huge as people make it out to be, but a sharp edge digging into mesh on the second pull sounds more like user error or a defect than a normal thing. $60 is a lot though, so I get being annoyed. For most shop work the hardware store one does the job just fine.
