Critic said my lacquer cuts had too much sibilance, now I change my EQ before every cut

A guy at a local audio meet in Portland pointed out my 'S' sounds were spitting on my test pressings. I started cutting with a 3dB dip at 5kHz and it fixed the issue completely. Has anyone else adjusted their cutting chain based on what listeners hear, or am I overthinking it?

Wait, Portland audio meet? I thought that scene was all tube amps and arguing about speaker cables. And you just dropped a 3dB dip at 5kHz like it was nothing? That's a huge cut, man, that's gonna flatten the whole top end if you're not careful. I mean I've been doing this for years and I still just trust my ears on the reference cut, I never touch the EQ unless something's really broken. But hey, if the test pressing stopped spitting, then you found your fix, I just can't believe you went straight for the surgical cut like that.
