The $1.25 cake stand that replaced my aunt's gravy boat

Every Thanksgiving my aunt insisted on using her ceramic gravy boat for the cranberry sauce. Last year it tipped over and stained the tablecloth for the third time. I grabbed a cheap glass candle holder and a plate from Dollar Tree, glued them together, and now we have a proper cranberry dish. She still grumbles but nobody's had to spot-clean the linen since. Anybody else repurposed something for a holiday meal that worked out better than the 'real' version?
