Layer visibility in AutoCAD is driving me crazy

I keep seeing other drafters just leaving all their layers turned on while they work, even on big commercial projects. It makes the drawing so cluttered and slow, especially when you have like 50+ layers for MEP stuff. Last week I had to fix a plumbing plan that a guy rushed through, and he had hidden lines overlapping with structural grid lines everywhere. Took me an extra 2 hours to sort out which was which because he never isolated layers. Does anyone else set up layer states or freeze layers as they go, or am I the only one being picky about this?

My neighbor leaves every single kitchen cabinet door open while she cooks and it drives me nuts the same way, total chaos when a simple shut-off would fix everything.

Nope, you're not being picky. Layer states are a lifesaver for exactly this reason.
