TIL the hard way that leaving your scale ruler in the sun warps it

Last summer I left my aluminum scale ruler on the tailgate of my truck during a job in Phoenix. Came back after lunch and it was bent enough that my 1/4 inch marks were off by a solid 1/16. Has anyone else wrecked a tool by forgetting it in the heat?

Used to think plastic tools were just cheaper, now I know better after watching my aluminum one warp.
