Why does nobody say anything about layer naming until your plots come back wrong
I've been drafting for 9 years and always named layers whatever got me through the drawing. L1, L2, new layer, stuff like that. Last month our print shop in Akron sent back a 24x36 set with half the duct lines missing because my layers collided with the title block layer on the plot config. The guy on the phone, Dave, walked me through it for 20 minutes and said he sees this all the time from people who never set up a template. I rebuilt my whole standard that night. A-I-WALL, A-I-DOOR, A-I-DUCT and so on. Took me a few hours but my last two submittals came back clean. What naming setup do you all use? I feel like I'm late to this.
Oh man, same thing happened to me with a survey set last year, the civil layers were all just "C-ROAD" and "C-ROAD2" and the utility company kicked it back twice. Spent a whole weekend renaming everything to A-I-UTIL-WATER and A-I-UTIL-SEWER after that mess. Idk why nobody tells you this stuff starting out, feels like everyone just learns the hard way when a plot comes back wrong.
