Why does nobody talk about the old school vellum trick for checking line weights?
I was working on a set of mechanical plans for a factory in Omaha and my lead drafter told me to lay a scrap of vellum over my screen to see the lines better. I thought it was a joke, but after trying it, the subtle differences in my 0.18mm and 0.25mm layers were way clearer. Has anyone else found a simple, physical trick that actually helps your digital work?

Heard about a friend who tapes a piece of tracing paper to his monitor to check colors. Says it cuts the glare and lets him see the real tones better.

Huh, that's a weird trick. I wonder if the paper's texture actually adds a tiny bit of diffusion, like those old matte screen protectors. It might soften the light from individual pixels just enough to blend colors slightly, making gradients look smoother. Could be a cheap fix for banding on an older monitor.
