Guy on the riverbank told me to run the pump slower, saved my whole shift

Was working a tight stretch of the Blackstone last Tuesday, material was getting sucked up so fast the screen kept clogging every 20 minutes. This old timer fishing off the bank yelled over that I was running too hot. Told me to drop the throttle way down and let the vacuum do the work. I figured he was just some guy who'd never touched a dredge, but I tried it anyway. Screen barely clogged the rest of the day and I pulled more yards by quitting time than I did in the morning. Anyone else had luck ignoring your gut and listening to a random bystander?
