I was dead set against those auto-taping tools until I tried one on a big job
I've been doing drywall for over 20 years and always thought the auto-taper was a gimmick for guys who couldn't hand tape right. Then last month I had to hang and finish 40 sheets in a new basement in Des Moines and my buddy let me borrow his Columbia Taper. I got the whole thing taped in about 4 hours instead of a full day and the mud job was actually smoother. Has anyone else switched after swearing them off for years?

Oh man, I gotta say you're wrong about one thing. The Columbia Taper is decent but it's not the best out there. I had the same attitude about auto-tapers for years until I tried a Level 5 tool on a big warehouse job. That thing laid mud so even I barely had to touch it up. The Columbia works fine for small basements but if you ever get a high production gig, you'll see what I mean. Different tools for different jobs.

Different tools for different jobs" is the truth right there. I used the Columbia for years on residential work and thought it was fine until I had to do three floors of an office building in a week. Switched to a Level 5 and it cut my finishing time in half, no joke. Sometimes you don't know what you're missing till you have to push hard.
