Just realized my tape knife angle was wrong for ten years

I was finishing a ceiling in a kitchen remodel in Tacoma last month, and my joint compound kept pulling away from the tape. I finally stopped and really looked at my knife, holding it at maybe 15 degrees instead of the flat 45 I always used. I changed my grip, kept it flatter, and the mud laid down smooth with no air pockets. Has anyone else had to unlearn a basic habit like that?

Maybe a flatter angle just works better for some people.
