Swapped a $40 pen for a 50 cent one at a signing event

This author guy was signing books and I brought this fancy pen I overpaid for, he used it, handed it back, and said 'this feels heavy for no reason.' I traded him for the cheap Bic he had on the table and honestly my handwriting looked the same, why do we do this to ourselves. Anyone else keep a 'nice' version of something that does nothing better than the dollar store version?
