My brother told me to just throw everything in the slow cooker for chili
He said to dump two cans of beans, a can of tomatoes, and a pound of ground beef in raw, then cook it on low for 8 hours. I tried it last Tuesday and came home to a weird, greasy mess with the beef in one big lump. It tasted off and took way longer to clean the pot. Has anyone else had a slow cooker fail like this, and what's your actual go-to method for a quick chili?

Brown the beef first in a pan to get rid of that weird grease. It only takes a few extra minutes and makes a huge difference in the final texture. My chili comes out way better every time I do that.

Honestly, that's my exact method and it always works for me! Maybe your cooker runs too hot or something.
