My instant pot just gave up on me last night halfway through cooking a chicken stew. Do you stick with one appliance or keep a backup plan?

Just buy a decent one and run it into the ground. Having a backup for a single pot is overkill. When it dies, you replace it.

So what's your actual cutoff for "decent"? Because a lot of people call a $20 pot decent, and that thing will last a year if you're lucky.

Exactly, a good pot should last decades, not months.
