Can we talk about the 'just caulk it' fix for baseboard gaps?
I had a corner in my Edmonton living room where the baseboard pulled away from the wall about a quarter inch after winter shifting. One side says caulking is the easy fix and it will flex with the house movement. The other side says trim work should Never be held together with caulk alone and I should have used a brad nailer to pull it back flush. I spent 45 minutes wedging it back and still had to use two nails to hold it. Now I'm looking at a small crack forming again after 3 weeks of warm weather. Which approach actually holds up in Alberta's climate swings?

Nailed it back and it still moved, so I guess my house just hates me.

And honestly, if you're not nailing it back first the caulk is just gonna crack again no matter what you use. I tried the "just caulk it" route on a similar gap in Calgary and it was fine for like two months then winter hit again and it was a mess. Nail it tight, fill the tiny gap with caulk, and hope for the best cause these houses are gonna move no matter what.
