Tried spray foam in my 1950s bungalow attic and now my furnace barely kicks on

I went from paying $380 a month for gas last winter to around $200 after sealing up all those crazy gaps around the old knob and tube wiring, has anyone else seen that kind of drop with just attic foam?

Wait, are you sure that drop is all from the attic foam? I mean, you probably tightened up the house a lot, but sometimes folks forget they also changed their thermostat habits or had a milder winter.

Wait, you’re not wrong. I had a similar thing happen when I blew in some cellulose a few years back. I was all set to pat myself on the back for my awesome DIY skills, then realized half the drop was probably just me being too lazy to turn the heat past 65 that winter. Honestly, it’s easy to oversell the insulation credit.
