Was dead set against radiant floor heating until my parents got it installed last winter
Always thought it was a gimmick. Too expensive, too complicated, who needs warm floors right? But my parents redid their basement in December and put in electric radiant mats under the tile. Went over for Christmas and stood in their bathroom barefoot. It was 35 below outside and that floor was actually warm. Not just not cold, actually warm. Now I'm pricing it out for my own ensuite renovation. Anyone in Edmonton have experience with the install costs for a small bathroom maybe 60 square feet?

That moment in the bathroom is what gets you eh? Standing there barefoot in the middle of winter and the floor is actually warm, not just not freezing cold. What was the electric bill like for your parents that month? I've heard the operating costs can be a shocker if you run it all day but I wonder if it's worth it for just a small bathroom like 60 square feet.

Went over to their place a few times that week and kept finding excuses to walk into the bathroom barefoot. Felt kinda silly but I couldn't get over it, like how is this even real? My dad showed me the thermostat and they had it set to 24 degrees in there. Electric bill for January was about 45 bucks more than usual but for a 60 square foot room that's not bad. I was totally one of those people that rolled my eyes at heated floors too but now I'm looking at mats for my own place.
