Wasted $800 on a bad basement waterproofing job

Back in March I paid a guy $800 to seal my basement walls after a wet spring. He said he used some special rubber coating and guaranteed it for 5 years. Two weeks later the same spots were leaking again when we got heavy rain. Now I'm out the cash and still have to tear out the drywall he put back up. Has anyone else dealt with a waterproofing company that just didn't do the job right?

Two weeks later the same spots were leaking again" - honestly, that's on you for expecting a $800 fix to last forever. You get what you pay for, and $800 is cheap for basement waterproofing. Real companies charge $2000-$5000 for that kind of work. The guy probably used some Home Depot bucket stuff and slapped it on. You shouldve done more research before handing over cash. People always want the cheapest option and then act surprised when it fails. Next time get three quotes and read the fine print.

Oh man that's brutal. I once paid a guy $500 to fix a leaky pipe and he just put duct tape on it.

Yeah that duct tape move is a classic. I've had the same thing happen with a so-called plumber who used electrical tape on a copper pipe joint. The leak came back within a week and it actually made the corrosion worse. You really gotta watch out for guys who show up without basic tools or try to sell you on temporary fixes as permanent solutions. Next time tell them upfront you want a proper repair with the right fittings and a warranty in writing. If they balk at that, find someone else.
