I used to strip 12/2 with my knife before I got a pair of Knipex strippers

For years I just used my pocket knife to strip the sheathing and then the insulation, which was fine but sometimes I'd nick a conductor. About six months ago, my journeyman saw me doing it on a service upgrade in Tempe and basically forced his strippers into my hand. The speed and clean strip are a total game changer, no more worrying about cutting too deep. Anyone else have a tool they resisted that they now can't live without?

Remember my old knife, the one I swore by? It's now a dedicated box opener in my garage. I was so stubborn about it, like a guy trying to dig a post hole with a spoon. My foreman finally just shook his head and tossed me his strippers mid-job. Took about three clean pulls on some 12/2 to realize I'd been making my life way harder for no good reason.

Man, that hits home. I used a flathead for everything until I kept slipping and gouging my thumb. Finally broke down and got the right screwdriver, felt like an idiot for waiting so long. Some habits just die hard, I guess.

A knife still works fine if you're careful.
