Old journeyman told me I was wrapping wire nuts backwards for 8 years
He grabbed my last splice, unwrapped it, and said 'you're twisting the nut onto the wires instead of twisting the wires together first.' I switched the next day and haven't had a loose connection since. Anybody else get called out for a basic habit that you thought was fine?

Took me 12 years to learn that one.

Wait @julia_carter did you seriously just go 12 years before anyone called you on that? What finally tipped someone off? I had a foreman catch me on day one of my second year but I was just stubborn and kept doing it my way for another few months thinking he was being picky.
Honestly I think a lot of guys never get called out because the nut holds fine for a while then works loose later when nobody's watching. It's one of those things that looks fine in the moment but shows up as a headache down the line. How many failed splices do you think you had over those 12 years from that habit alone?
