inEveryone swears by the new ceramic foam filters for our gray iron pours.
Yeah, in a real emergency, ten minutes can be the line between a bad situation and a total loss. I've seen how quickly things can change when every second counts. It's not just about waiting, it's about what happens while you're waiting. That delay lets problems get way worse, way faster than people realize.

inVent: My entire field sample from the Cascade foothills got soaked in a surprise downpour last Tuesday.
Remember my uncle tried that slow dry method on some wet shale for a garden path. It still crumbled like old cheese. Makes me wonder if some batches are just doomed from the start, like michaels95 might be finding out. He ended up using the pieces as filler in the back where it didn't matter. Whole thing was a mess but the plants didn't seem to mind.

inMy old boss said to never use pocket holes on face frames, but I just finished a kitchen where they saved the day.
Still solid ten years later" is just luck. Pocket screws pull the joint apart over time with wood movement. They're a shortcut that fails when humidity changes. Saw a face frame split clean off at a client's house last year.

inHad a client in Fort McMurray insist I use his 'special' homemade concrete mix
Yeah spencer_thomas4, that push to do your own thing is real. When my old team kept shooting down my ideas, I just built a quick, ugly version over a weekend to prove it could work. Showing them the actual thing, even with its flaws, got way more traction than any slide deck ever did. Sometimes you gotta stop asking and start making.
