Gate motor crapped out mid-install last Tuesday - swap or repair?

Was wrapping up a mod on an old Otis in Denver and the gate operator just seized, smoke and everything. I say yank it for a new solid-state unit, but my partner thinks we can rebuild the motor and save a grand. Which side you on when you get a sudden fail like that?

Have you ever tried rebuilding one of those old motors only to have it lock up again three months later? I used to be all for saving the money and fixing things myself, but after wasting a whole weekend on a gate that still smoked when we powered it back up, I lean toward just swapping it for a new unit now. Peace of mind is worth more than that thousand bucks if you ask me.

A rebuilt motor just needs proper bearings and seals, that gate probably had a different issue entirely.
