Hotel elevator in Nashville had me second-guessing my whole career

I went to Nashville last month to visit my sister and ended up riding this old Otis in her hotel. Thing was built in the 70s maybe and it sounded like a coffee grinder on every floor. I noticed the door operator was making this weird clicking noise and the leveling was off by almost an inch. I actually pointed it out to the front desk guy and he just shrugged said it's been like that for years. I asked if I could look at the machine room and he laughed like I was joking. But seriously I spent the whole weekend noticing every little shudder and groan that elevator made. Has anyone else tried to relax on vacation but just can't stop analyzing every lift you step into?

Huh, that door operator clicking is probably just the limit switches getting old, not a safety thing. But that leveling being off by an inch would drive me nuts too, especially on vacation.

Makes you realize how many broken things we just accept every day.
