Old timer at the shop told me I was greasing guide rails wrong for 10 years
I was just slapping the grease on thick figuring more is better. He pulled me aside and said I was just creating a mess that would gum up the rollers over time. Showed me to use a thin film and wipe away the excess. Since I switched to that method about 6 months back, my callbacks on rail noise dropped to almost zero. Anyone else get a basic tip that totally flipped their routine?

Oh man, "more is better" was basically my motto for everything until someone called me out too. I used to glob grease on like I was frosting a cake, figuring I was just being thorough. Then a guy told me I was basically making the equipment wear out faster by attracting all that dust and grit. Now I do the exact same thing you do, thin film and wipe the excess, and it's night and day. It's funny how the simplest correction can save you years of headaches, right?

Man that dust and grit thing got me too, it's wild how much difference a little change makes.
