Cut my fiber transit costs by 40% after one call to Level 3

We were paying $1,200 a month for a 100Mbps MPLS circuit in Phoenix. Felt crazy expensive. I asked if they had any promotional pricing for a 3 year contract. They dropped it to $700 without me even pushing. Has anyone else had luck just asking for discounts on enterprise circuits?

Heard a story recently at a local business meetup where a guy runs an IT shop and gets discounts all the time just by asking. He said most providers have lower rates they never advertise unless you push. Your drop from 1200 to 700 is pretty solid, sounds like you caught them off guard. Usually they wait for you to threaten to leave before they budge, so getting that just by asking is a win. Been seeing more people talk about this kind of thing lately, especially for circuits in secondary markets like Phoenix.

Tell them you're shopping around and get a quote from a competitor first. I did the same thing with AT&T on a 200Mbps circuit in Tucson. Had a quote from Cogent for $550 and AT&T matched it at $600 without much hassle. These carriers all have a "retention" pricing bucket that sales reps can dip into. You just gotta give them a reason to use it. Also check if your contract has auto-escalation clauses - mine had 3% yearly increases built in that I got waived too.
