Lost a full day of work after a static IP got reassigned

I was troubleshooting a client's VPN outage at a warehouse in Cleveland last month. Turned out our ISP reassigned their dedicated static IP without any notice during a routine maintenance window. Has anyone else dealt with carriers doing silent IP changes on enterprise contracts?

Yeah that tracks, seems like nothing's really yours anymore even when you pay for it.

Bought a "lifetime" license for a photo editor last year, six months later they dropped support and the thing just stopped working on the latest OS update. Now I'm stuck with a useless key and they want me to buy a subscription. My rule now is if I can't download a standalone installer and store it on a hard drive, I'm not paying for it. And even then I only buy from companies that actually let you transfer licenses. Saved my ass a few times already.

Yeah that whole situation sounds like a nightmare, getting hit with a silent IP change on an enterprise contract is unacceptable. ISP's seem to think they can just do whatever they want during maintenance windows without any real accountability. Did they at least credit your account for the downtime after you got it sorted?
