Just had a client cry after her first facial in 5 years

She told me she forgot what it felt like to be touched gently, and that hit me harder than any compliment ever has - anyone else get emotional moments like that with clients?

And building on that idea of forgetting gentle touch, it makes me think about how we underestimate what a simple, caring touch can do for someone who's been starved of it for years, even if they have partners or family around. I had a client who was a nurse in an ICU and she told me the only time someone touches her with care anymore is when she comes to see me, because at work it's all clinical poking and prodding. It really drives home the point that our hands aren't just doing a service, they're giving back a piece of basic human connection that's lost in the daily grind. That moment of realization is like a punch in the gut, in a good way.

See it everywhere now that I'm paying attention. People touch their phones way more than each other. Watch a couple at a bar sometime. They're side by side but nobody's hand is on the other person. Just scrolling. @lindaw12, your client's story really hits home how we treat touch like a transaction instead of something human. Makes you wonder how many people are walking around touch starved and don't even know it.
