That time a derm told me acne clients don't need extractions and she was dead wrong
I had a dermatologist in Phoenix tell me last spring that extractions are basically useless for acne-prone skin and just cause inflammation. I stopped doing them for about 3 months and my regulars with cystic breakouts looked worse than ever, one girl even went back on antibiotics. She had been clear for 6 months before I took that bad advice. Has anyone else had to unlearn something a medical professional told you about your own trade?

That bit about extractions just causing inflammation hit home lol. My buddy who does lashes in Tucson told me her dermatologist said the same thing about lash lift perms ruining natural lashes. She stopped doing them for two months and her regulars lashes were snapping off cause they weren't getting the proper conditioning lift anymore. One client's lashes literally looked like they got fried before she went back to doing them.

Oh man, 'looking like they got fried' is exactly what happened to my cousin when she tried one of those at-home lash lift kits. She followed everything perfectly but her lashes ended up all brittle and curled at weird angles. It took her months and a lot of castor oil to get them back to normal.

Wait, is that for real? I always thought lash lifts were gentler than perms but I guess the chemicals are basically the same deal.
