Lost a whole afternoon trying to fix a printer with a bad YouTube guide
My home office printer jammed last Tuesday, and instead of calling for help, I followed a video that said to take apart the whole feed roller assembly. Ended up breaking a small plastic clip inside, and the repair bill came to $120. What's a better first step when a basic printer acts up?

My buddy did the same thing with his scanner last month.

Ugh, why do people always jump to taking things apart? Most printer jams just need you to turn it off, open every door you can find, and pull the crumpled paper out slowly. It's almost never the feed roller. @allen.amy's friend probably just needed to clean the glass on that scanner. A simple fix gets way too complicated online. Next time, try the basic stuff first and save the videos for actual weird problems.
