TIL my cloud backup app was silently failing for 6 months, big files never uploaded

Last week I went to pull some old groomer client photos off my phone to show a new customer a before/after, and bam, half of them were gone. I checked the app, said everything was backed up, but the actual files on their server were just not there. Turns out for like 6 months it had been throwing errors on anything over like 50MB and just... skipping it without telling me. I only found out because I dug into the activity log on the computer, which took forever. Has anyone else had a cloud service just quietly eat their stuff? I'm thinking of running a manual file count check every month now, but that feels nuts. What do you all do to actually verify your backups work?

Ugh, that's such a nightmare! I had the same thing happen with a photo app and now I do a quick "spot check" once a month where I grab like 5 random files over 50MB and make sure they actually open from the cloud. It's a pain but way less than losing client stuff.
