I finally tried my grandma's sourdough starter and it molded in 2 days
Last week I dug out her 30 year old recipe from a box in the attic. Followed it exactly but forgot to feed it every 12 hours and now I got green fuzz floating in the jar. Has anyone else had a family recipe turn on them like that?

My aunt had a similar thing happen with her famous biscuit recipe-she swore by using lard instead of butter, but when I tried it last Christmas, the dough came out like playdough and the biscuits were basically hockey pucks. I mean, maybe it was the humidity or my oven being off, but I felt like I’d insulted her whole legacy. Green fuzz is definitely worse though, that’s like a science experiment you didn’t sign up for. Makes you wonder if grandma’s notes just left out some crucial step that she knew by heart.
