My aunt told me my pie crust was "like eating a cracker" and she was right

She said it at Thanksgiving last year right in front of everyone... burned pretty bad at first. But she grew up on a farm and made pies for 50 years so I asked her what I was doing wrong. She said I was overworking the dough and not using cold enough butter. I always thought colder was better but she showed me to leave the butter out for 15 minutes before cutting it in. Also told me to stop using a food processor. First pie I made after that came out flaky and actually good. Anyone else have a relative who just tells it like it is?

Learned that lesson when my grandma caught me using a potato peeler on carrots and tossed it right in the trash lmao.

I got to ask, did your grandma just yeet the peeler across the kitchen or did she at least hand it back with a death stare? That's pretty hardcore but honestly respect it. Some older folks really don't have time for shortcuts or fancy tools, they just know what works and they'll tell you straight up. Makes you wonder how many potato peeler murders have gone down in family kitchens over the years. But hey at least you learned something valuable instead of ending up with a peeler shaped dent in the wall.
